Title: Mouth Breather

Artist:The Jesus Lizard

Album: Goat

Year Released: 1991

What It Is: A deranged blast from these purveyors of grungy, smelly, loud rackets. (Yes, you can tell just by listening that they probably sweat a lot, so smelly is apt.) There’s pounding drums, a cool guitar riff, a heavy bottom, and David Yow mewling about something or other.

Riffage / Hookage:As stated, a killer guitar riff drives the songs and the bass is right there with it supporting it all the way.

Cowbell?:Nothin’ but poundin’ drums and cymbals. But it’s pretty intricate cymbal work for the type of song it is.

Words Of Wisdom: “Don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice guy, I like him just fine

But he’s a mouth breather.”

Kind of describes Randy in My Name Is Earl.

Mixology Report:I say go for it – the riff carries it and Yow isn’t totally spastic in this one.

For The Good Of The Order:There are rumblings that they’re reuniting for a tour. That would be sweet.
